Dog fouling

Dog Fouling at the Recreational Grounds

We are currently experiencing an extremely high volume of inconsiderate and irresponsible dog owners not clearing up after their dogs. Thank you to those owners who go above and beyond and clear up after other dogs.

The mess left is a hazard to users including children and it is unfair on the Grounds Team to have clear up mess left behind. Mess left behind and un-noticed can cause damage to the equipment we use to maintain the grass and can be spread further afield. In some instances the Grounds team has to change their workwear and shower because they get covered with mess. Health and Safety risks include Toxocariasis which is very unpleasant particularly in children and can cause major sight issues. The actions of a few put users at risk and the Grounds Team when they are exposed to dog mess.

Not cleaning up after your dog is irresponsible and the very few tarnish the majority. With immediate effect we are asking all dog owners to keep their dogs on leads in all open spaces managed by the Parish Council including both recreation Grounds. Appropriate signage will be in place. This will ensure you will be aware of when you need to clear up after your dog. Dogs off leads and away from their owners can defecate without the owners knowledge.

Please ensure you clear up after your dog and place waste in bags in any bin including designated dog bins and other litter bins. We are also experiencing an increase in used waste bags being ‘tied’ to trees maybe with the intention of returning to dispose of it. Some do return, others leave it to the responsibility of others including the Ground Team who are not employed to clear up after dogs.

The Parish Council respectfully ask all dog owners to respect the position it has found itself in and it’s need to ensure everyone using it’s open spaces and its staff are keep safe.

Thank you
